Welcome to Bee-friendly Plants - As Seen at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show - Visit our Online Store NowBee-friendly Plants is a new nursery based in the heart of Suffolk with a selection of colourful and fragrant plants, shrubs, seeds, roses and climbers in the online plant shop. The plight of British bees is our raison d'etre. For a large number of reasons, bees are in decline and we feel that we must do what we can to halt this. One thing we can all do is to improve the bees habitat by using our gardens to plant shrubs, flowers and trees that are of benefit to bees.
Too many of the flowers seen in gardens today are grown for aesthetic purposes only. That is they have been bred to look good but may have little to offer pollinators. It is not immediately obvious which flowers make good bee plants and which do not. For this reason we have done the hard work for you and offer a range of plants of proven value to bees. They are usually single varieties that are close to the original species and which have both pollen and nectar available to the bees.
The latest research points towards the serious loss of foraging grounds and consequent lack of biodiversity available to the bees as a major factor in the crisis, so we at Bee friendly Plants firmly believe that if we all plant a few more flowers, we can begin to reverse this trend. It is not necessary to create a wild-flower meadow (though it would be great if you could) but if we all take a little care with what we put in our gardens this summer we just might begin to make a difference. |
